Bergen bows out

Norway’s Bergen Group has sold its final holding in its former shipbuilding division to Ukraine’s Zaliv Shipyard.

The remaining 30% in NorYards will be disposed of for $4m, it said.

The deal will lead to an unspecified accounting loss in the second quarter. Zaliv is now the sole owner.

Bergen CEO Asle Solheim said: “Bergen Group has in recent quarters implemented several measures to reduce its involvement in shipbuilding. Now we choose to sell the remaining shares in NorYards earlier than originally planned."

Its last offshore vessel newbuilding will be delivered this week.

Bergen is now focusing on oil and gas projects and maritime services.
