Market sources say that Dinos Economou-controlled Omicron Ship Management has paid $15.5m to secure the 75,800-dwt Red Iris (built 2003).

Broking circles say that the ship, sold by Monaco-based operator Arminter, is in tip-top condition, although some believed it would be sold for under $15m.

It was not possible immediately to contact Economou for confirmation of the deal.

In May TradeWinds reported that the Sanoyas-built bulker was expected to be withdrawn from the market after three buyers had inspected it because the owners were said to be disappointed that offers were not at the level of a similar sized and age vessel sold in March for $21.9m.
