Bids in for Ferguson

A number of bids have been lodged for the troubled Ferguson shipyard in Scotland.

Local bus company owners Sandy and James Easdale confirmed they had filed an offer, but other potential buyers have not yet been revealed, the BBC said.

The Scottish government has not ruled out stepping in to buy the company.

The River Clyde’s last remaining commercial shipbuilder has been fighting for survival in recent months before entering administration last Friday.

Joint administrators Blair Nimmo and Tony Friar said that lack of significant orders and mounting cash flow pressure led to the group’s inability to continue trading.

They had set a deadline of 5pm on Thursday for offers.
