Prudence for IHC

Dutch yard Royal IHC has announced plans to build a specialised vessel due to the increasing global demand for trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHD).

The Easydredge 2700 will be built by IHC’s partner, MTG Dolphin shipyard, in Varna, Bulgaria, and will be delivered in summer 2015.

The newbuilding will be placed on stock in order to satisfy any order with a short delivery time.

Fer Tummers, managing director of IHC, said: “Building a TSHD for stock is a logical step forward for us.

“The need to have equipment to secure a contract and the need for a contract to secure financing to procure this equipment is a vicious circle that IHC aims to help break by having new equipment available from stock.”

The new vessel will be supplied with bottom doors, a bow coupling and a dredging depth of 25m.
