On Friday, TradeWinds reported the the 299,000-dwt tanker BW Nysa (built 2000) to be on its way to Greek newcomer Smart Tankers Inc for around $30m.

The world’s largest shipbroker says the price shows a firming level for tankers of this vintage.

In its weekly report Clarksons noted the 289,994-dwt Asian Progress II (built 2000) fetched $28.5m from Altomare in May.

“We continue to see strong levels of enquiry across the large crude sectors, with a lack of available sales candidates the only factor limiting market liquidity as owners remain bullish about the charter markets going forward,” Clarksons said.
