The South Korean shipbuilder said the vessels will be 42,000 dwt and capable of crossing the arctic due to their Arc-7 ice class.
Korean and Russian news reports cited the yard as saying the owner was Sovcomflot (SCF), but the Russian company told TradeWinds it was not behind the deal.
The new units will be completed by April 2017.
They will be able to travel through ice of 1.4m
