The company confirmed to Reuters it could still acquire assets, while taking over the France-Corsica and France-Maghreb runs.
An SNCM spokesman told the news agency: "Several potential candidates have expressed their interest."
Sources said Compagnie Meridionale De Navigation (CMN) was also considering a move for assets, but it has not commented.
CMN also run ships to Corsica.
Privately owned operator Corsica Ferries has ruled itself out of the race.
