Finance minister Michel Sapin told reporters he had discussed the issue in a short meeting with Italian counterpart Pier Carlo Padoan in Rome last week.
No other details were given, but TradeWinds has reported market talk linking Italian shipyard Fincantieri to a bid for its cruiseship rival.
Sapin said Italy is considering buying out Korea's STX Corp, which holds 66.6% of STX France.
