The ministry of defence has ordered the 6,000-gt oceanographic vessel for delivery in January 2016, according to broker Clarksons.
It is the first new contract listed at the Vigo shipyard since 2010.
Freire has previously built ships for GC Rieber, Carisbrooke Shipping, AP Moller-Maersk and Volstad among others.
