Havyard wins wellboat

Norwegian shipyard to build $34m live fish carrier for NFT.

Norway's Havyard has won an order for a live fish carrier from domestic owner Norsk Fisketransport (NFT).

The NOK 300m ($33.83m) Havyard 587 wellboat will be built in Leirvik for delivery in April 2017.

There is an option for another ship to be handed over in the first quarter of 2018.

The new vessel has been chartered for five years by Cermac.

It has been designed with cylindrical tanks for good flow conditions and stable water quality for the fish.

"Combined with an efficient propulsion system and an optimum hull shape for the operating conditions in question, these features make Havyard 587 the world's most efficient and environmentally friendly wellboat design," Havyard said.

It has a capacity of 3,250 cbm and can carry 640 tonnes of fish.
