Estonian owner Tallink’s option for a second LNG-fulled ferry has expired at Meyer Turku in Finland.

The Turun Sanomat daily reported that the German-owned yard said the company had until the end of February to decide on a second ship.

The owner is not going ahead for now, but the yard is open to negotiations for another vessel over the next few years, Meyer Turku added.

The option was inked in 2015 following an order for the EUR 230m (then $286m) Megastar at the end of 2014.

The 49,000-gt, 2,800-passenger ferry will be delivered in 2017.

It will be deployed between Tallinn and Helsinki.
