German industrial group SIAG Schaaf has bought the domestic Nordeewerke shipyard to build wind energy systems.
A deal has been struck with owner ThyssenKrupp to take over 721 workers at the Emden plant, while another 300 staff will continue to work for their current employer on repair and construction projects, SIAG said.
It said: “For the first time capacity is being taken from the market without affecting jobs in the region.”
