Chinese yards have produced 50% more vessels for export in the first four months of this year, compared to 2009.

Government figures showed exports reached $12.36bn, including production platforms, to 30 April, up 49.7% year-on-year.

This growth figure is still 0.4% behind that recorded in 2009, compared to 2008.

New ship orders increased 12-fold to 12.77m dwt, accounting for 47.2% of the world's total, earlier reports said.
