STX Offshore & Shipbuilding has scooped a double tanker order to continue its strong start to 2010.
An Italian owner as ordered two 50,800-dwt product tankers at the South Korean yard, it says.
STX says the unnamed buyer will pay $70m for the pair, thought to be the first product tanker newbuildings penned this year.
Delivery of the twin ships will take place in 2012.
This latest contract takes STX’s newbuilding intake to eight so far this year.
In January it landed a deal to build four 57,300-dwt bulkers for Densa of Turkey
It also won E Nomikos’ first newbuilding order in 30 years, when the Greek owner penned one firm 81,000-dwt Kamsarmax plus an option at the end of January.
