Russia's trade and industry minister has pledged to modernise its shipyards at a cost of more than RUB 15bn ($260.6m).

Denis Manturov made the commitment at a meeting to mark 10 years of state holding company United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC).

He singled out yards in St Petersburg and Rybinsk for upgrades.

USC president Aleksei Rakhmanov added that modernising the Admiralty yard in St Petersburg would allow it to build "large capacity" ships, Portnews reported.
