New Korean president Moon Jae-in is determined to support the revival of Hyundai Heavy Industries' Gunsan yard.
The plant is due to be closed temporarily on 1 July due to a lack of orders.
Moon has now met with regional governors, the Asiasis website said.
One of them, North Jeolla provincial governor Song Ha-Jin said: "The government needs to establish a specific plan and draw up a budget for the normalisation of Hyundai's Gunsan shipyard."
