Louisiana shipbuilder Metal Shark has won a new deal for coastal patrol vessels.

The contracts could be worth $54m, local media said.

It will build up to 13 cutters for the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Guatemala and other US partners.

Metal Shark will also supply infrared sensors and diagnostic equipment, train crews and provide test support.

The vessels are based on Damen Shipyards’ Stan Patrol 2606 design, the yard said.
