Belgian shipowner DEME looks to have resolved a dispute with Construcciones Navales del Norte (LaNaval) which had led to allegations such as “steal” and “hijack” being used to describe a failed attempt to tow away a nearly completed cable layer from the crisis-hit yard.

DEME head of communications Vicky Cosemans says the allegations about the attempt, made under cover of darkness last week at the Sestao-based yard, were totally unjustified, but that following talks in Belgium on Wednesday with the LaNaval board, it has been agreed DEME can remove the vessel and finish it under its own management.
