Japanese shipbuilder Onomichi Dockyard and subsidiary Saiki Heavy Industries are targeting a fresh line of business for single-fuel vessels that it predicts will emerge from the global cap on sulphur from 2020.

The Hiroshima-based shipyard is now marketing a marine gas oil (MGO) mono-fuel ship, claiming it is the answer to the 2020 problem for many shipowners and will help win fresh orders in a difficult market for shipbuilders.
