A luxury cruiseship order at shipyard Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding is the clearest sign yet that Japanese owners are ready to consider orders at Chinese shipyards.

The deal will see the Chinese subsidiary of Japan’s Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Group build an 800-passenger vessel. It is understood a Tsuneishi Group company will seek to operate the cruiseship in the Asian trades.

But the deal is still being viewed very much as another example of a Japanese shipowners warming to Chinese newbuilding contracts.
