Sri Lanka's Walkers Colombo Shipyard has clinched a $4m loan from Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The Economy Next website said the money would be borrowed over eight years, with a one-year grace period for interest repayments.
The cash will help Walkers establish a new repair facility.
Walkers finished building its first vessel last year - a barge called Seagulf 1.
