South Korean shipbuilders are expected to see improved conditions in 2018 as the market pulls back from one of the worst years in recent memory.

Investment in new vessels spiked by almost 60% to $58.7bn in 2017, with tankers, bulkers and gas carriers all increasingly in demand, according to figures from Clarksons.

Despite the improved order flow, the 902 new vessels contracted left last year as only the third in the past two decades when new contracting failed to reach four figures, the world's largest shipbroker notes.
