Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) is to use robots to build ship hulls for the first time, it has been claimed.

The machines will improve efficiency and cut costs, the Yonhap news agency reported.

The yard has completed a year of testing in Ulsan on a system that automatically shapes a vessel's curved surface.

It uses internet of things (IoT) and automation technologies.
