Maersk Line has delivered a hammer blow for struggling shipyards by calling an end to newbuilding orders following a huge corporate overhaul.

The world’s largest boxship owner has been behind record-setting newbuilding contracts both in terms of vessel size and overall value.

But chairman Michael Pram Rasmussen has closed the curtain on that practice with Maersk Line identifying takeovers as its new path to growth.
