Ofer’s Quantum Pacific snaps up Gener8 stake held by US fund

Idan Ofer’s Quantum Pacific Shipping has purchased a stake of slightly less than 5% in Peter Georgiopoulos-led Gener8 Maritime, sources tell TradeWinds.

While Ofer’s intentions are not yet known, his purchase comes on the heels of John Fredriksen’s pursuit of New York-listed DHT Holdings in a stock-for-stock transaction that so far has been rebuffed by DHT.

Ofer has bought a large portion of the shares formerly held by Monarch Alternative Capital, a US-based private equity fund that now has sold completely out of Gener8, sources say.
