Nearly all of the ballast water treatment systems installed on ships in a major fleet operator are not working as expected, according to a shipping executive.

In addition, ships coming out of yards may not have the needed kit to keep compliant with rules of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (Marpol)

The remarks came during a forum at the annual meeting of Intertanko in Houston.
