Vardinoyiannis company Avin International has emerged as the buyer of a medium-range 2 (MR 2) tanker duo from Hyundai Merchant Marine, at a price marking a new multi-year low for vessels in that category.
Market sources say the Vardinoyiannis-led company has agreed to buy the 50,400-dwt sisterships Oriental Ruby and Oriental Emerald (both built 2005) at $10.5m each.
The two Shina Shipbuilding-built vessels were rumoured sold to Greek peer Benetech in late April, at a much higher price of $22.5m
