Greek authorities are trying to control an oil spill after a tanker sank near Athens.

The 3,200-dwt Agia Zoni II (built 1972) went down near Salamis island over the weekend, the coastguard said, according to the Daily Star.

A bay on the southeast of the island had been affected.

The tanker was carrying 2.5 tonnes of fuel and the slick has extended over 1.5km
