Dominican Republic authorities have found 1.57 tonnes of cocaine on a tanker intercepted in the Caribbean.

The 1,200-dwt Kaluba (built 1968) was brought into the capital Santo Domingo following the operation, which was part of a joint effort with the US and the Netherlands, local media said.

The drugs were discovered hidden in a cargo tank at the end of the year.
