The Chinese government is giving a small fillip to the product tanker market with higher export quotas for gasoline and diesel. But the quotas look to be weighed toward the start of the year, with full-year export levels up only modestly.

The country's four largest refiners - PetroChina, Sinopec, Cnooc, and Sinochem - will be allowed to ship 20 million tonnes of refined products in the first quarter of 2018, a 54% jump from a year ago, JP Morgan says in a research report.
