ST Shipping has extended its charter of a Korea Line-owned MR tanker for a year.

The shipping subsidiary of commodities trader Glencore has chartered the 50,000-dwt DL Navig8 (built 2008) for some $13,000 per day, European shipbrokers said.

Over the past year, ST Shipping has been paying $13,500 per day for the tanker.

The Swiss trader keeps its hands on the tanker amid steady period rates in the MR sector, where Howe Robinson estimated this week that a one-year charter is worth $13,250 per day, which was unchanged from seven days earlier.

Glencore has been an active charterer in the MR sector, with TradeWinds reporting earlier this month that it scooped up four product tankers, although it is not immediately clear if the DL Navig8 was included in the quartet.

Elsewhere in the MR sector, PMI has reportedly chartered the 47,000-dwt Miss Mariarosaria (built 2011) from Perseveranza di Navigazione.

The trading arm of Mexican state oil monopoly Pemex fixed the MR tanker for five months at $13,800 per day with an option for five more months at $14,250 per day, brokers said.

This deal is understood to be on subjects. The tanker is coming off a charter to Denmark's Maersk Tankers at $13,500 per day.
