Sekavin refused to refuel the ship due to the European Union’s ban on Iranian crude and products imports due to its alleged nuclear weapons programme.
Shipping data shows the 164,000–dwt suezmax Baikal (built 2008) arrived at Syros on Tuesday and is now heading away from the island.
The cargo was not unloaded, Sekavin said.
The vessel is flying the Tanzanian flag. Tanzania had promised to ditch Iranian ships from its register and said last month 14 Iranian tankers that were previously registered in Tuvalu were mistakenly signalling Tanzania as their flag state.
