The Belgian owner announced the conversion sale of the 299,150-dwt Luxembourg (built 1999) for $28m last week without revealing the other party involved.
Brokers who name Modec as the buyer note it also purchased the 298,000-dwt Algarve (built 1999) from the same company in 2012.
Modec paid $35.8m for that tanker.
The Luzembourg pact leaves Euronav with 10 VLCCs in the water and 15 on their way from Maersk Tankers after a $1bn takeover just a few weeks ago.
