Rates in the east have moved past the $81.6 per ton benchmark set in the summer of 2008 and are now at the highest level noted by the Baltic Exchange since its records began in 2002, Fearnley Securities says.
Analysts led by Jan Andreas Naess say a time charter in the east is now in the high $50,000s per day with the market in the west catching up.
