According to regulatory filings he and John Lycouris, the CEO of affiliate Dorian LPG (USA), have been involved in the management of shipping companies for more than three decades.

Market sources tell TradeWinds that the New York-quoted owner of four LPG carriers and 19 newbuildings hired Hansen to serve as a chartering manager.

They say the executive will be based in London and is scheduled to start on 1 September, a claim the company confirmed when contacted Monday morning.

According to a LinkedIn profile Hansen has been with Maersk for most of his career. After serving as a captain of various LPG carriers he came ashore in 1999.

In 2004 he was appointed as the diversified Danish organisation’s Senior Charterer and handled the employment of it’s LPG carriers until it exited the segment in 2013.

At Dorian sources say Hansen will likely report to Nigel Grey-Turner, the managing director of Dorian LPG (UK), and be responsible for securing term business.

Dorian LPG is led by chief executive John Hadjipateras and based in Stamford but also maintains offices in London and Athens. Today the operator oversees three very large gas carriers (VLGCs) and one pressurized LPG carrier.

In addition the owner boasts a backlog of 19 newbuildings. Due to the group’s rapid expansion industry observers say they are not surprised by the appointment of Hansen to a post that did not exist at its London office until recently.
