The state-owned company said on its website that it had signed contracts for three 50,000-dwt tankers at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) on Wednesday.
Managing director Zhu Jianhui joined GSI president Han Guangde at the ceremony.
No price or delivery dates were given.
The owner is better known for its VLCCs, suezmaxes, aframaxes and LR vessels.
The newbuildings will be the smallest in its fleet.
