American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) says it has secured a contract to class its first Japanese-flagged vessel.

In a statement the organisation identified the unit as the 302,500-dwt Yamatogawa (built 2006), a tanker owned and managed by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line).

"We look forward to providing our best-in-class technical services and global support to a growing part of the Japanese commercial fleet in the coming years," added Derek Novak, the chief operations officer of ABS Pacific.
