During the three-month period ended 30 September, the company earned $76.7m, or $1.34 per share, compared to $69.1m a year ago.

Revenue went up 24% and stood at $680.7m, with $448.7 coming from Kirby’s marine transportation segment.

The positive result came during a quarter which saw several petrochemical plants and large refineries facing outages, something that had an impact on the demand for inland tank barges.
