Japanese duo plan VL merger

Further consolidation is likely in the Japanese VLCC market through the proposed merger between Idemitsu Kosan and Showa Shell.

The two companies have confirmed they are in talks to merge as a strategy to cope with the long term decline in Japanese crude oil demand and the lower oil price environment.
