In a statement issued after the close the US tanker operator pointed out that Blackley has been with the company for nearly 30 years.

Prior to today’s appointment the captain served as OSG’s chief operating officer. Before this he was the company’s finance chief.

Going forward Blackley pledged to “build upon” what he described as the owner’s “new momentum and success”.

“I look forward to our next phase of growth, as a leading company in the maritime industry, and to our full return to the capital markets as a publicly traded company,” he added.
