He is reported to have taken the 298,600-dwt GC Haikou(built 2000) from GC Tankers for $31m.
Clarksons says the deal indicates a climb in the price of VLCCs over the past six months.
It notes Smart Tankers paid $30m for the 299,500-dwt BW Nysa (built 2000) in September last year.
Polemis has taken New Shipping’s VLCC count to six with the purchase. All of the tankers were built in 1999 or 2000.
