The Today’s Zaman website said the company, run by president Recep Tayyip Erdogan's son Bilal alongside other family members, has paid $18m for the 7,100-dwt Shovket Alekperova (built 2014), built at Besiktas Shipyard in Turkey.
The ship is listed as owned by Armada Voyager Seven of Malta and managed by Palmali Shipping of Turkey.
BMZ will acquire two more vessels before the end of the year, part of an order for five vessels in Turkey.
