The US Military Sealift Command has exercised a one-year option period for a Maersk Line Ltd the ice-classed tanker.
The deal is worth almost $14.5m meaning the Norfolk-based shipowner will earn an estimated charter rate equivalent to $39,700 per day.
The identity of the ship was not disclosed but Maersk Line has only two US-flagged product tankers – the 47,000-dwt Maersk Michigan (built 2003) and the 38,100-dwt Maersk Peary (built 2004).
