Sharma named Essar managing director

Essar Shipping’s board of directors has officially lifted Anoop Sharma to the Indian shipowner’s managing director role.

The appointment announced Wednesday is effective 1 November.

Sharma, who joined Essar as chief executive in 2008 and was made whole-time director in April, has been taking on the various titles of managing director A R Ramakrishnan, who retired at the end of March.

“I look forward in working with a holistic approach for the business to sail through these challenging times in the maritime industry,” Sharma said after the board vote.
