Shipowners in Azerbaijan are in talks with Russian shipbuilder Krasnoye Sormovo over two new tankers.

The Nizhniy Novgorod yard could build RST-27 river-sea crude and products carriers, according to Russian media.

The ships are usually up to 7,000 dwt, and media in Azerbaijan said they will be used to cope with growing demand for crude and products exported from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan

But the reports also questioned why the country is heading to Russia rather using its own newly opened Baku Shipyard, although this is likely to come down to cost.
