Pantheon Tankers purchased a modern VLCC from Teekay Corp in what would see the Canadian company exit direct VLCC and crude tanker ownership.
Speaking to TradeWinds at the 2016 Marine Money conference in New York, chief executive Peter Evensen confirmed the sale.
The Daewoo-built 314,000-dwt Shoshone Spirit (built 2011) has been purchased for $62m, sources say. The vessel was earlier in the fleet of Taiwan's TMT as C Elephant.
