Canada’s mariners union says it has won cases against the government over the issuance of work permits to foreign sailors in the nation’s cabotage trade.

Canada’s Seafarers International Union (SIU) said it won a decision in the nation’s highest court seeking to set aside 11 work permits issued by the government to foreign crew members of the 37,500-dwt New England (built 2005), which is owned by Netherlands-based Iver Ships.
