Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) continues to be the showcase shipyard of the southern conglomerate China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC). It has the country’s largest orderbook of 2.9 million compensated gross tons (cgt) and is the fourth-ranking yard globally after South Korea’s DSME, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI).

Located in the Pudong area of Shanghai, SWS is poised to become the first Chinese shipyard to break into the potentially lucrative cruiseship market, a sector dominated by European shipyards.
