We have all heard it: shipping is the most carbon-efficient mode of transport; oil spills and casualties are down dramatically over the past two decades; and the scourge of dirty ballast water is soon to be controlled.
But when it comes to sulphur belching out of the funnels, shipping remains a dirty business, since it is by far the world’s biggest emitter.
