European Commission (EC) maritime director Fotis Karamitsos has been ousted as part of a restructuring of the transport ministry.

The 66-year-old, who has played a key role in shaping European Union (EU) maritime policy over the past two decades, is now “principal advisor” to the commission on “road initiatives”, a largely ambassadorial post. He has been replaced by Magda Kopczynska of Poland, who took up her new role on 16 October.
